Peer Support Training
Our Peer Support Training is a Montana Board of Behavioral Health approved course that prepares individuals with lived experience in recovery to become Certified Behavioral Health Peer Support Specialists (CBHPSS).
Through 40 hours of interactive, trauma-informed instruction, participants gain the knowledge, confidence, and tools to walk alongside others on their recovery journey.
Rooted in compassion, connection, and empowerment this training explores the heart of peer support using shared experience to inspire hope and promote wellness. Students develop practical skills in communication, boundaries, ethics, documentation, and recovery planning. Throughout the training students develop a deeper understanding of their scope of practice and their professional responsibility as a CBHPSS.
The program highlights the vital role peer support plays within and beyond behavioral health systems, preparing graduates to make a meaningful impact in diverse communities across Montana.
Tuition for this training ($850) is covered by the MSU Office of Rural Health and the Area Health Education Center (MORH & AHEC) thanks to DPHHS funding. If you can't attend, please let us know before November 26th so we can open the slot to another student.
Travel Reimbursement is available through grant funding through MORH & AHEC for those who need it (i.e., Mileage and/or hotel).
Please contact Beth Ann Carter (beth.carter@montana.edu) for travel reimbursement questions.
